Refrigerator Repair and Maintenance Questions

How do I keep my refrigerator clean?
We recommend using baking soda to keep mild odours out of your fridge, and regularly wiping the walls and shelves. You can purchase a variety of products intended to reduce odours from foot items.

What temperature should I keep my refrigerator temperature at?
Most manufacturers recommend you keep your fridge between 3 and 5 degrees Celsius, depending on your needs.

How often should I clean the coils on the back of my fridge?
If your home accumulates a lot of dust, or you have pets such as dogs or cats, it’s recommended that you vacuum your refrigerator coils every 3 months to prevent cooling and cycling issues. Otherwise, vacuum every half a year.

Freezer Repair and Maintenance Questions

What temperature should my freezer be set to?
Most manufacturers recommend setting your freezer at or below -18 degrees Celsius for optimal results, long lifespan and proper food freezing.

How do I defrost my freezer?
Simply take out the contents and ensure they are prevented from spoiling. If there is a lot of ice buildup within the freezer, you may want to place towels around the edges of the door in case of leakage. Turn off the freezer and open the doors. Let it stand until completely defrosted, then wipe dry.

Oven and Stove Repair and Maintenance

What can I do to clean my oven?
Your oven may be a self-cleaning model or not. A self-cleaning oven should clean itself while in use. By turning it on for the recommended period of time, the oven will burn away any residue and food waste.
A non-self-cleaning oven will need to be cleaned manually. Purchase an oven cleaner and use it according to the instructions provided by the manufacturer.

Can I use oven cleaner in a self-cleaning oven?
Never use oven cleaner with a self-cleaning oven, as it may ruin the oven’s ability to self-clean.

Dishwasher Repair and Maintenance Questions

How do I ensure that my dishwasher properly sanitizes my dishes?
If you have a newer model, you will be able to manually adjust the temperature of the water used in washes, or select the specific wash cycle based on the sanitation requirements. For proper sanitation, ensure that your water is at least 55 degrees Celsius.

What can I do to prevent my dishes from getting damaged?
Check your owner’s manual for the types of detergent intended to be used by your dishwasher. If your dishwasher is damaging your silverware and dishes, you may want to change your detergent.
Another solution is to put fewer items in your washer, and to ensure that items will not move during the wash cycle. Place dishes neatly, and arrange them in a way that will not cause likely falls.

Why do my dishes come out cloudy or spotty?
Check the temperature of your water, and ensure that you are using rinse aid and the correct amount of dish soap.
Dryer and Washing Machine Repair and Maintenance Questions

Why do my clothes smell?
Never leave your clothes in the washer after a wash, and ensure that you are not closing your washer door after use, as this causes bacteria to build up within the drum.

Why is my dryer moist?
Your dryer’s vent or vent hose might be twisted behind your dryer, causing moisture to leave the drum improperly. Check the vent before calling a technician.
